Into the Dark Unknown

An online Advent retreat into the fertile darkness with Mother Mary

This Advent, what might it be like to embrace the dark?  Instead of rushing into the light, flooding consciousness with glaring brightness, what might happen if we surrender to the dark, saturate ourselves in the original goodness of Goddess, the medicine of the Dark Mother?

We are standing on a precipice.  Everything we’ve known is behind us, and the horizon is a vast unknown.  This can feel dark and scary, but what if it’s filled with fertile promise?  What if everything we need is just waiting for us, in that dark unknown?  And what if SHE is showing us the way?

Who is SHE?  For eons She’s gone by many names– Inanna & Erishkegel; Kali & Durga; Isis & Hathor; Mother Mary & Mary Magdalene.  She is the Divine Feminine, the Black Madonna, the Goddessss, the One who reminds us to feel in the dark, who remembers us into our night vision, whispering that maybe we already know how to navigate in the dark.

To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.

To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,

and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,

and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.

(Wendell Berry)

In these times of tremendous upheaval and total unknown, we are being initiated into the dark.  In all the questions, the Dark Mother reaches through the void and takes our hand.  She invites us to use all of our senses, to deepen into our wildness, and to link arms with kindred souls on the journey.

Advent, the beginning of the new liturgical year, is a time of stepping into the unknown, and learning to see and be and birth new life in the darkness.

SHE is with us, every step of the way.

Why Mother Mary?

Many of us were immersed in untruths about Mother Mary-- that she was passive and silent, an obedient daughter of patriarchy.  But what if there's another story?  What would it be like to engage the Divine Mother in Her potent power, full presence and fierce love?  What might it heal in you, to walk into the Christ Mysteries with HER?   Tracking the Mysteries of the Rosary, ancient portals into Her, we reclaim Her love & life anew.

Weekly Themes

Each week we'll engage one of the five Joyful Mysteries of the rosary.  These are ancient archetypal stories woven in the love of Jesus + Mary.  Whether you've never visited them or walked this path many times, new and wonderous gifts will emerge on this spiraling path of the Great Mother.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this retreat for women only?

This retreat is open to anyone who identifies as a woman or female or primarily feminine as well as our non-binary siblings (femmes and thems) who feel drawn to this.  We love you brothers and we need a place to deepen and heal in feminine focused space.

Is this retreat for Christians?

This retreat is rooted in the Wisdom tradition of the Christ lineage, but you don't have to identify as Christian to attend.  Folks of all or no religious or spiritual persuasions are welcome.

Do I have to attend live?

No, the recordings are available to catch the retreat at any time that works for you. That said, the insights of those present in live time (Wisdom Circle) is a central piece of the retreat, so if you can attend for any of the sessions in live time, that is a bonus!

Do I have to be familiar with the Divine Feminine (or Mother Mary) to attend?

Not at all.  This retreat is designed for those just beginning to get to know the Divine Feminine, as well as those seeking a deeper dive.  We gain a lot by the Wisdom of one another, so wherever you are on the spectrum of relationship with Her is totally fine and welcome!

What if I have some serious wounding from Christianity?

We will be diving into some central stories from Christianity, so if you're triggered by that, this might not be the best place for you.  However, if you sense there are some wounds there ready to be healed, engaging these stories anew with Mother Mary's love could be just the medicine needed.  We expect each person to take full responsibility for themselves and their own healing, and we trust your capacity to do so.  Feel free to reach out if you'd like to talk this over more!

What folks have experienced in Erin's retreats...

"I have been attending Erin's retreats for several years. From the time of inviting you into the retreat, Erin creates an environment where I feel safe and held. There are so many benefits to attending the retreats, when a new one comes up, my wife (who will need to juggle all the kids' needs and bedtimes so I can attend) immediately says - "you should go!" She can see how much it brings me peace and community."

"I signed up for Erin‘s 5 Week retreat, being drawn to her invitation to wade into the waters of the Rosary’s mysteries ... What she curated during those five weeks of meditations, thematic talks and readings , as well as holding space for the collective wisdom to emerge from those who were in the retreat, was nothing shy of masterful. As a result, I experienced deep support and transformation from taking part."

Hi, I'm Erin

I’m so glad you’re interested in this work.  The Divine Feminine is rising in wondrous ways, and I’m grateful to be of service to Her return, particularly in the tradition of my origins, the Christ-light lineage.   Rooted in Catholic Christian sacrament, spirituality, and social justice, I work in service to the reclamation and renewal of Sophia, the Feminine heart of Christ, in devotion to the liberation of all beings.  I’m honored and excited to re-member and reweave this golden thread of Sophia Christ all the way from the Great Cosmic Mother Goddess into our lives today.   I hold masters degrees in Catholic Education (U. of Notre Dame), Multicultural Ministry (Franciscan School of Theology) and Christian Spirituality (Graduate Theological Union) and over two decades of experience teaching, facilitating groups, working with folks one-on-one and leading retreats.  I live in St. Louis, MO with my beloved and two fur babies.
