More about Erin Duffy-Burke
Hello! It's wonderful to meet you. I am a thealogian and minister; a facilitator of embodiment; a spiritual leader and organizer; a lover of all things Divine, love-centered and life-giving. I am called to accompaniment, to walk with you right where you are, in this unfolding divine-human journey. I am passionate about the authentic expression of each human person, the process of honest discovery and birth that happens when we really tune into this embodied soul’s truth. My work is all about creating safe, sacred spaces for people to get to know the truth of their soul, and building community of belonging. I know deep in my bones that we are held in a great cosmic dance of Love, and it is a total honor and joy to accompany others in this ongoing dance.
Like most of us, my path has been a winding one. I would say that there are consistent threads however, constantly weaving themselves into the fabric of my life. These are: God/ the Divine and a love for all things spiritual; movement/ dance; and writing. They are the golden threads of my life, the ones constantly resonating with my soul purpose and God's will for my life. At the center of these threads, or perhaps better yet, the raw material from which these threads are made, is love. Love is my purpose, my axis, the central turning point from which all things move. As Thomas Merton says, "Love is my Name." My main desire in my life is to be, live and give love in service to others.
This desire has carried me throughout my life, from three years serving as an inner-city elementary school teacher in Dallas, TX, through four years of campus ministry, also in Dallas, three years of theology and ministry school in Berkeley, California, to almost four more years of campus ministry in St. Louis, MO. My time in Berkeley taught me more about the shape of my calling-- ministry. I am a thealogian and minister. While my training has been in Catholic spirituality and ministry, I am also a yogi and have studied the spiritual traditions of many paths and places and consider them all to be throbbing with the central truth, which is Love. If I had to pick a guiding Scripture it would be, "Love the Lord, your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself." (Matt. 22: 35-40)
While I have for most of my professional life expressed my vocation through tradition roles, over the course of the last year the Spirit of the Living God has called me out of those traditional structures and into expansive service to ALL the people of God. Through prayer and discernment, I have come to know my call cannot be confined to certain rules and structures. I am here to serve all people, especially those most disenfranchised by those very structures. I am here to offer my gifts freely, in love.
The focus of my work now is embodiment, accompaniment, community building and writing. I hold weekly gatherings of Soul Dance: safe, sacred space for conscious, free-form movement. I find much truth and guidance arises from the wisdom of our own bodies when we move. Dance allows us to experience the wisdom of both this, individual body and the greater body of community. I also offer Soul Weave 1-1 accompaniment work, which is a total joy in my life. I love tending to the journey of each person's unique soul, finding ways to honor and love what is emerging, to create safe space for soul-flight. This work takes different forms depending on the needs of the individual. I have served as spiritual director, yoga therapist, movement witness, pastoral counselor and in all cases, spiritual companion.
I am a trained and experienced theologian, minister, healer and spiritual guide, with Masters degrees in Education, Multicultural Ministry and Christian Spirituality and over fifteen years of experience in teaching, facilitation, ministry and healing work. I am a certified yoga instructor (200 RYT), yoga therapist (500 RYT) and a certified Facilitator of Embodied Transformation. My work draws on many years of practice and experience in various movement modalities, including the 5 Rhythms, Soul Motion, Dancing Freedom, Authentic Movement, Contemplative Dance and modern dance. I love weaving these embodiments into my work of ministry, spiritual direction, sacramental life, liturgy and prayer.
I would love to be of service to you! Contact me: firstname.lastname@example.org or Call: 847-975-2972
